Is privacy a human right? -Are authenticity and transparency interchangeable?

Can celebrities and influencers still be thought of as authentic and transparent if they don’t share everything? Let’s say that transparency is how much you are sharing, and authenticity is how truthful those things are. Just because you aren’t sharing every single aspect of your life, does that mean that the things you do share are less truthful?

This isn’t just a problem that faces those in the public eye, we all toe the line of what we share in our lives. Knowing what is appropriate to share with your work friends and what should be saved for your bestie, not posting your whole life on social media and not spewing other people’s business when it’s not your place.

Finding the balance between transparency and authenticity could allow celebrities and influencers to keep some things to themselves while still being as truthful as possible with the things they do share. Giving them the space and freedom to be themselves while feeding their gossip-hungry fan base. Being in the public eye is a part of their lives but we all need and deserve the space to just be, and I’m sure we all have things we’d rather keep from everyone.
